mortgage debt and credit file

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Repossession : One Thread

Hi!! My husband is in bad situation with mortgage shortfall debt . The things went wrong and he has faced a claim against him. But I have got a question. If somebody has got a mortgage account it must be shown in the credit file. Am I right? If it is true I am wondering how they could have a claim as it is there is not any sign in his credit file. He has not got any problems to obtain a credits etc so far. Thanks

I'm afraid you are not correct Eva.

Mortgage companies don't necessarily report to the credit agencies, and those that do don't report to both of them.

It sounds to me as though you have one report from one agency - you need to get the other as well. The two agencies are Experian and Equifax.

Note that if you husband is being pursued for shortfall debt, please follow the advice given on this board. It takes an hour or two to read through it all but it is well worth the effort involved.

One small point Eva, if I'm stating the obvious then I'll shut up, but make sure your husband's credit report request includes all previous addresses - including the repo property. You will only be shown the info relating to the addresses you give them - so - if you miss one out!! - hope you see what I mean.

Good luck,

Stephen
