Can I burn dat format file larger than the cdr capacity

can i burn let say 804MB vcd dat file into 700MB cdr? anyone please help.. thanks

Maybe. It's very complicated, but to be brief, if you use any version of Roxio/Adaptec's EZ CD Creator, it probably won't work. Other programs should let you do this. CD-ROM and audio CD reserve some of the CD-R disc for error correction. VCD does not use this error correction, which frees up these areas on the disc to write to. That's how you can burn 804 MB VCDs on 700 MB CD-Rs - the 700 MB CD-R really has a capacity of about 800 MB without the error correction.

of course you can supposingly you're talking about vcds when the case of vcds is considered, we do not look at the size limit of the cd-r but the time limit. i would suppose that a 700MB cd-r have 80minutes of play time available so if your video clip plays for less than 80min, there should be no problem at all. and supposingly, you're not trying to make a data disc out of the dat file but a video cd

In Nero, you have to enable 'overburn'. This will let you burn larger than disk capacity on CD-R's. Check the help files in Nero for how to do this.
