Graviational Ezcema following Bi-laterial total knee replacement

greenspun.com : LUSENET : About Joints : One Thread

My wife has has bi-laterials total knee replacement in Uk, now 11 weeks since surgery. She has suffered from severe irriation, and oedema on both lowr legs calves, etc. This has eventually been diagnosed as Graviational Ezcema, cause we believe through disturbance of the veinal systems in her legs. Treatment is being offered by Ultra Sound (2 x weekly) and use of compression socks/stockings. Is this problem normal? or unusual? Will this condition improve/ and how long is this likely to take.

This is a very rare problem, but should resolve as she becomes more active and the muscle activity reduces the swelling
