I would like to know more about the poem "Romance." Who is it referring to? And what does it mean?

It's basically referring to all of the loves of his life. His cousin, Sarah Elmira Royster, and all of the motherly figures in his life.

Not ANY girl at all but the more impersonal mystery at the core of Nature. The parrot referred to is a reflection being aimed at by a hunter, a shadow of fancy and remembrance of happy childhood when learning was born and his subsequent vocation as poet.
