Annulment of Marriage

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Hi,

I am from India. I had a registered marraige in US. This was something which happened unwilling to me. I can even say without my will. Its almost 3 months this happened to me. Neither me nor my parents consider this to be a true marriage. I think this registration to be just to safeguard my fiance's Green Card processing. My marriage is scheduled in another 2 months in India. I like to know whether it is possible to cancel my marriage in US without much problem ? I also like to know whether this will affect my future. I also like to know whether this will affect any of my further procedding in US like applying for GC or Citizenship. Please give me advice as early as possible.

Thanks

It sounds like you will need a civil annulment from the US judicial system, not a Catholic annulment from a Catholic tribunal.

If you signed the marriage certificate, it will probably require going to court, which can be very expensive. If someone forged your name on the marriage certificate, the police may be able to help you.

This is just my guess; I don't know much about civil annulments.

Dear Maggi,

Your post is not clear, but, I think your best course of action would be to notify, in a clear, concise and well thought out manner, the new Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Service ( part of the new Dept. of Homeland Security) then do as they require.

Be only truthful and candid.

I believe they have a Web Site which lists ways to communicate with them.

Best Wishes.

Moderator, please note ...
I did not post the message just above.
Impersonation is no big deal in this case, though I cannot imagine why someone would bother to post such a meaningless message.
