He wasn't a very persistent student, which was truly illustrated during his year at the Westpoint Military Academy. He excelled more in English classes.

Poe was good at math, excellent of course in the literary arts. He was gifted, enthused and despite his inner moods quite sociable escpecially with the girls for whom he wrote poems. His problems at West Point were mainly due to money and vocation. He decided against the military life and let his wildness and mockery show a lot more, somewhat to get himself suspended which was actually an honorable custom to withdraw from that school.

Excellent, lively, creative and likeable. A natural student who flexed his powers. Trying to write in two notebooks at the same time to test his powers of thought and concentration. Just impressions from his schoolmates and teachers. Those fortunately were his happier times although in his teens his family life and other relationships produced darker feelings.

While Poe was in school in England he was a bright young man excelling school and gym though it was not until he hit the University of Virginia is when things went down hill form there. So poe was always a good student he just got swept into bad things.
