well to begin with his writing was not his job and was published but not on a very large scale. in later life he gained more recognition, but remained poor. he had good and bad criticisms and met charles dickens who tryed to get more of poes work published. he didnt really recieve awards or fame, i think his problems in life, ill wife, drinking problems etc were so bad and took so much of his attention that he didnt really see if he was appreciated or not. the fame and recognition he now has only came about after his death when people realised how significant his work really is
