I don't understand why Goku must go with the dragon shenlong at the end of dbgt. Could anyone explain it to me?

the way i took it was that goku's lifetime was long enough. and he can't always be the one to save the earth. that's where gohan, goten, trunks, etc come in. (this idea comes from the cell saga when goku wants gohan to beat cell). it's time for goku to move on... yeah uh huh whatever :D
