Field of Flowers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Nature Photography Image Critique : One Thread

This photograph was made in Bodega Bay, California. I call it "Field of Flowers." I was [initally] planning on taking a closeup of just one flower. However, when I stepped back from the viewfinder to a momentary rest I noticed this composition. Needless to say I didn't bother with the closeup anymore. :)

Sorry for the wrong URL. Here is the right one (hopefully).

OK, should have it now. This is really not intuitive.

Comments: Colors appear pretty muted, even muddy, while the white petals are actually a shade of gray. As for the composition, there aren't any strong elements to guide my eyes around the frame. While it's not an overly busy composition, it lacks a focal point. Overall, it's just a nondistinct picture of some flowers.

Suggestions: For the colors, recommend reprinting or rescanning. The light doesn't look overly flattering to begin with, so perhaps reshooting in better light, say, late afternoon, would help. The lack of dynamic colors hurts this photo overall. If it were more colorful, the composition may not matter as much. Towards that end, I'm not sure what compositional elements could be changed to improve this shot. To me, it needs something else.
