i need to know what the author, Edgar Allen Poe, wants the reader to learn when they read the short story called "The Gold-Bug"

Better to ask first what the author thought he was doing. I think he wanted to facinate and intrigue the reader(and critics) with a puzzle-mystery tour de force in a mood of treasure and death.
