The DVD Player Compatibility List at http://www.vcdhelp.com tells if firmware hacks are available for many different models of DVD players. Please note that most players can not be hacked.

Enabling SVCD:1 - Power up the dvd with no disc 2 - Press Pause and then press 1,4,7,2 3 - Press up arrow 6 times, 4 - Press Program 6, Program 5. 5 - Press Enter and return 6- Power off and power on the player
Enabling VCD:
1 - Power up the dvd with no disc 2 - Press Pause and then press 1,4,7,2 3 - Press up arrow 3 times, 4 - Press Program 6, Program 5. 5 - Press Enter and return 6- Power off and power on the player
to unlock the dvd regions: 1 - Power up the dvd with no disc 2 - Press Pause and then press 31 41 59 3 - Press 0 (for all codes or any code you desire) 5 - Press pause 6- Power off and power on the player
