Mushroom Samba was the one that came to mind for me, too. The last two episodes are great of course, but too heavy and tense to make for really enjoyable watching (at least for me).

i know how retarded she is for replying to her own question but i wanted to ask another. what's ur favorite song to cb? they all kick a$$, indeed they do (had to throw some rurouni kenshin in there). my favorite is rain, sung by steve conte, the song the play in ballad of fallen angels when spike is approaching the church where he and vicious duke it out

Ballad of Fallen Angels, followed by real Folk Blues part 2. The episodes like "Mushroom Samba" are fun, but what sets the series apart from everything else out there are the more serious ones. And of those, Ballad of Fallen Angels is the best. Real Folk Blues part II comes close with Julia's death, Spike's final attack and subsequent death, and the ending song (Blue). But Ballad of Fallen Angels is just perfect, from the beginning, where we meet the enigmatic Viscious, to Faye's capture in the Opera house, to one of the most atmospheric and best fights in the whole series (the Cathedral showdown), to what is, IMO, the best sequences in any media ever. i'm talking, of course, about the Green Bird sequences, with Spike plunging to his apparent doom as flashbacks of a past we don't yet know flash past in sepia tones, integrating with reality as the hauntingly beautiful "green bird" plays in the background. truly a masterpiece.
