Can't watch VCD anymore~ help!!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I used to be able to watch VCD while I was using Windows 98 and ME with media player, powervcd or powerdvd. Now I'm using Windows XP and I can't watch a lot of my VCD collections. (ususally named after: AVSEQ01 or AVSEQ02)

None of the vcd player software mentioned worked. When I try to open with Window Mediaplayer version9 it sais: 0xC00D1199: Cannot play the file. Same thing happend when I try using PowerDVD. And Powervcd sais the driver is being used by another program. So I am really stuck, please help!

Try reinstalling Windows Media Player. That should help. Try my program, Subhash VCDPlayer, after that.

I think I read somewhere that Windows Media Player 9 sometimes refuses to let you play various kinds of media because its anti piracy controls don't always work correctly. Try uninstalling it and if possible, try to downgrade to an older version. There is a freely available clone of WMP version 6 available on the Internet. I don't remember the name of it, but it's at http://www.doom9.net in the Downloads section.
