Gothic horror, humor of different types, historical fiction, science fiction, mystical allegories, hoaxes, puzzles, essays, literary reviews, marginalia short quotes and fillers. He invented the modern detective story and upped the quality of serious literary criticism. Lyric poety, ballads, a few sonnets. One novel of sea adventure and fantastic places(Pym). A book of mystical scientific speculation he called a prose poem, "Eureka. A grunt work text book on Conchology(seashells).
