Virginia's name is Anabell Lee because he is referring to her, but in an anonomous way. He wants a more private way or proclaiming his love for her.

The clearest answer to the choice might be another poem called "The Mourner" where the name is Anna and many other echoes of Poe's poem such as would have easily stuck in his head until he made new material from the old. sample: With my Anna I past the mild summer of love 'Till death gave his cruel decree, And bore the dear angel to regions above From the cot by the side of the sea.(by D.M.C. 1807)

He had also written "To Annie" so this was a popular name for Poe at that time. It is is also far from certain that Annabel Lee stands for Virginia directly. It is an idealized poem with elements attributed perhaps to other women- which Poe did relentlessly during that last hectic year in a rather shameless fashion though he had been recycling poems for girl friends since his youth.

How Edgar Allan Poe died: no one really knows how he died, but the only thing that anyone knows about his death is that he was found laying in the street drunk, and in sum one elses clothing. it had been said that there was a mad-man going around though, killing people- u know? so they are OR WERE supicous of that back in the 1840's when he died. i hope this helps u. i learned this just the other day in school watching a biography on him from the t.v.
