Sporadic massive dropped frames - HI-8

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I am trying to get good captures from my 8mm and Hi-8 tapes. The captures hum along quite well dropping about 1 frame per minute but then occassionaly start dropping massive amounts of frames. Starting the caputure again at that point gives the same problem indicating that it is that portion of tape giving the problem. Picture looks fine though. What could be causing this and how to fix it?

P4 1.5, 256MB, 40gb Seagate st340016a (7200rpm), Pixelview playTvpro PV-BT878P+ w/FM with drivers from http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/

Use Virtual dub, 352x288, 25fps, 44k/16/m, YUY2, Huffy, (though have tried RGB24 and uncompressed as well as PicVideo MJPEG with same problem)

I kid you not I have been trying to get my home videos captured for over a year with constant frustration. I have learnt a hell of a lot scowering the web for information and reading all I can, but there is always something that seems to elude me!

it could be that you have not defragmented your hard drive, and theres too many fragmented files in it. Thats what it sounds likesince you say it starts of fine then it doesnt work anymore thats when you hit a badly fragmented area on the disk. In my opinion this could be the problem. Daniel
