Luther Vandross Had a Stroke

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

I understand that the soulful crooner Luther Vandross has suffered a stroke and is recovering in a New York hospital. I am sure we are in prayer for this great entertainer and we wish him great health quickly. I have heard his song titles and lyrics used to accenutate many a point in many a sermon. And his songs have always spoken to the heart. May God bless him and be with him

Luther Vandross has been a blessing to the world of music! It is "So Amazing" how he has captured the ups and downs of love and relationships through song. This "Bad Boy" knows how to sing, or shall I say "croon." "If this world were mine," I would wish him the best, for "There is nothing better than Love." When it comes to listening to Luther, "there is never too much." Yes, I am a fan, and could go on forever and a day! May we all pray for his recovery the way he has brought us joy through his singing!

Yes indeed my prayers are most certainly with him and that he has a speedy recovery. I am also a big fan of his and his music is truly a gift from God. My favorite if I had to choose would be the "Power of Love", there's a strong message in all of his music, but the "Power of Love", really drives home the significants of how our love for one another is all that really matters to God. Thank God for His Powerful Love of us all, may God be with you Luther in this your hour of need.

I recall once being interrupted while I was grading some economic tests by a smooth tenor sound on Soul Train singing the timeless classic, 'A House Is Not A Home". As much as I tried to concentrate on making sure future economists understand the esoteric implications of general equilibrium theory my mind was stubbornly fixated on the message of Luther's stirring song. For that moment reason took a back seat to entertainment. I have never regreted my choice. "Don't you remember I told you I love you baaaaaaby. You said you be coming back this way again.............." Back in the day, when I was a sho nuff playa, I used to sing this Luther classic with regularity. Luther, Teddy P., Alexander O'Neal, Frankie Beverly, these brothers redefined crooning. My hope and prayer is for a speedy recovery of Mr. Vandross. "Here & Now", I declare this "Superstar" the best crooner of my generation :-) QED

This morning, Mary Ida Vandross, appeared on CBS' Early Show along with Patti Labelle this morning. Ms. Vandross is a true believer and strong in her faith. Shown below is a statement she made this morning.

"Mrs. Vandross says she's convinced her son will make a full recovery because of a moment on Mother's Day when she was reading scripture to Luther.

She says, “And I would say to him, ‘Luther, the Lord is your shepherd. You don't have to want. And he's making you to lie here in green pastures. He's restoring your soul.'” Mrs. Vandross explains that as she read Psalm 23 to her son, she replaced the word “I” with her son’s name.

Mrs. Vandross says, “Instead of saying ‘I,’ I used, ‘you, Luther,’ and when I had finished, he says, ‘Mama.’ It was just so great to -- he said ‘Mama.’ And I just said, ‘Lord, he heard me.’”

The doctors say that Luther is still in critical condition, but he is stable, and they expect him to recuperate. To God be the glory.

i feel as if i know you, i'm not a computer fan, the only thing i do with with e-mail are trash them or read what seems important from a few friends, but for you i just had to put a piece in. i am a 30 year old jamaican, words just can't express what the words of your songs do for me, it's like you talking through me to my boyfriend whenever i can't find the words, especially when he behaves tough.i'm not sure how your mind works but i would hope youv'e got faith, determination and a whole lot of trust in GOD. think of your experience as one of your greatest challenges, and soon you'll be able to smile at the storm.you are my uncle, my friend you are my brother.you are my "SECRET LOVE". GET WELL. KAREN.
