4-Her with a goat that has a teat problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Dairygoats : One Thread

I have a doe that is about three months old. I was planning on using her as a dairy goat for 4-H next year but I found something that I think might be a disqualification. On both sides, she has 2 teats. One hasn't grown but the other is the same size as the other 2 but I checked and it looks as if there is no orifice. Is this a disqualification? Can I get them clipped and is it too late because of her age? Please help!

It is a serious defect. You should cull her, sorry. :-( Where did you get her? If you bought her, go take her back to the breeder, point out the fault, and ask for a replacement. Clipping them off will not solve anything, the area may leak when she comes into milk, and it's a genetic defect. If you bred her yourself, use a different buck next time on her mother.
