poe was found outside a tavern in the gutter semi conscious and disillusioned - they reported his death as a congestion of the brain BUT In a recent article in reader's digest, in 2001 or 2 (i'm not sure - still looking for the article-) a doctor came across eap's file and did a study discovering that he did in fact die of rabies. proof that he did not die of alcohol lies also in the fact that he had severe dry mouth and refused all sort of alcohol - a typical 'remedy' in that time - he only wanted water - this too is a sign of rabies

Actually, there is no such file. If you read Benitez's original article, from the Maryland Medical Journal, it becomes obvious that the case file was a recent creation, summarized from a rather poor article written for the Maryland Historical Society magazine about 1978. This information is, therefore, three or four hands away from anything directly connected with the event of Poe's death. There are no original records surviving from the hospital where Poe died. Given a little analysis, rabies is a ridiculous theory, not substantiated from any of the evidence. The amazing spread of this "theory" in the popular press shows gullibility and a willingness to accept a certain, but wrong, answer over "we don't know."

Poe died the same way his mother did. He died of Tuberculosis I have resurched poe all my life and all the evidence I have found says he died that way. He was found in Baltimore and taken to Washington College Hospital he died four days later at 5 a.m. in the morning. if you don't agree check for your self. Rabies ya right, thats what they all say.

Poe died of consumption, because he sometimes thought, if one drinks the juice of a lotus plant, your memory might erased and might be able to get to heaven without any sins in mind. He also was a high dreamer and thinker,also was very familiar with opium and all sort of narcotics, but i can't remember the sight or tale inwhich he himself, explains the powerful thoughts of erasing his memory before he diess, his last words were "God please help my Poor soul." think about, medical assumptions sounds too simple for Poe's brilliancy. Is it possible his own subconscious killed him? I mean if you have read his speeches and his writings he obviously had a problem dealing with death, not in the physical sense, but the mental sense. His conscious became overwhelmed by his subconscious and in that event hell is paradise, we can run from god and the devil, but there is no escaping ourselves
