Please someone explain this to me! i have this stupid research paper to do , and every site i have been to has told me that he is the father because he wrote the first story.... so does anyone else know why? please help thanx

What part of the explanation that he wrote the first modern detective story (and is therefore the father of that genre) strikes you as confusing? A male originator of something is usually referred to as the "father" of it, just as a female originator is usually referred to as the "mother" of it.
