Edit mp2 audio files

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hi,

I was going to edit the sound track in my Karaoke VCD. Using VCDGear 3.5 to convert the *.dat to *.mpeg, then TMPEnc 2.59 to Demux the mpeg file, I eventually got the *.m1v and *.mp2 files. The mp2 is the audio file. However, WaveLab 3.0 and Cool Edit 2000 won't touch it. It would be very appreciated if someone can advise me as to how to edit this mp2 file and then Mux it back to a mpeg file. Thank you.

I've never used Cool Edit, so I'm making a guess, but the "mp2" extension might be causing problems. This is usually used for complete MPEG-2 files with both audio and video streams. Try renaming the audio file to *.mpa and see if that makes your sound editors happy. The "m1v" extension on the video file is OK, although I personally prefer "mpv" for MPEG-1 video streams. TMPGenc doesn't do anything weird to audio files after demuxing, so it's probably just the name causing your editors to have problems.

Hi Root,

Tahnk you for your help.

Sorry, I told two lies. Firstly, the audio file was actually named *.mpa and not mp2 as I mentioned. But when I viewed the property of the file, it's DOS name was *.mp2. Secondly, Cool Edit did load it up. But there was no waveform on the screen and there was only noise when I played the loaded file. Renaming the file or reloading after saving with a header didn't make any difference. Cool Edit does has an option to load *.mp2 under the "FILE" option, the result was what I described above. However the same audio file played beautifully with Window Media player 7.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi,

you can find the tool what you need at

http://www.uk-dab.info/downloads/mp3DirectCut.zip

http://www.rz.uni-frankfurt.de/~pesch/mpglibdll.zip

mp3DirectCut is a small tool for editing MPEG audio directly. No need to decompress your MP3 or MP2 into a PCM format. There is no quality loss through any re-compressions!

mpglib.dll is a plug-in required to edit MP2.
