Legal Cases about Domestic Violence Discrimination?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : domestic violence : One Thread

I am a law student working on an article regarding how schools engage in illegal gender discrimination when they present domestic violence services and educational materials using one-gendered language, one-gendered examples, or otherwise tending to marginalize male victims.

Does anyone here know of any judicial cases (United States), either state or federal, that have addressed the question of gender discrimination in domestic violence services or awareness programs? Thanks very much!

Yes. I think on Glenn Sacks' site (glennsacks.com), there was a recent column/radio show about abused men, and there is a court case pending in California against ten DV shelters for their discrimination toward men. (In Los Angeles county, there are 25 DV shelters, only one of which will help battered men, this shelter is out in the boonies, and many of the female-only shelters won't even INFORM men of the existence of this shelter, or refer him to it.)

Take a look at http://www.ncfmla.org/activism/activism.html.

This web-site is run by Marc Angelucci, the attorney recently interviewed by Glenn Sacks. Angelucci is spearheading the suit against Los Angeles.

Joe Manthey (his radioshow is mentioned in the SAFE news area.) is the one (I think) doing the complaint in California. In Alberta Canada, someone brought a human rights complaint about gender discrimination in domestic violence brochures. You should be able to get info on that at www.mesacanada.com Ron
