Hi Vikas,

Given your budget of SGD500, there are 3 SLD u can consider.

1) Nikon F55 2) Minolta Dynax 5 3) Canon EOS

All come with a len 28-80mm range.

My opinion is ;

Dynax vs EOS : Function wise, Dynax is better, especially in shutter speed. EOS is having a bigger body but lighter in weight. This is because it is made from plastic. Even with the budget u have, the Canon lens is plastic lens.

Dynax vs Nikon : Fucntion wise, Dynax is better here, shutter spped is 1/4000 vs Nikon 1/2000. Dynax comes with 7point focus but F55 only with 3 focus. With the budget, u can only afford Nikon G lens, the lowest quality of Nikon lens u can buy. It is no good, no way near comparison to Minolta 28-80mm lens.

Dynax 5 is the obvious choice here.

Hi Vikas,

I am also of the same category like you. After a little bit of research I am finally zeroing on Sigma SA-7. There is also Sigma SA- 9 which has little more extra features, but still I may not be in need of those. SA-7 is priced S$588 in Mustafa.

You will get more features with EOS300. Nikon F55 has much less function and use plastic lense mount. I would go for F65 or now F75. Save a bit more money then you buy a better one. It's only 200$ diff., better than to change later. People don't stay as "beginner" so long. After a few months you will want sth. better. I would go for EOS300 or even Nikon F80. Lense about 28-80 or 28-100,
