Hybird SUVs

I read that Toyota will be coming out with a Hybird SUV. Changing their Higlander SUV and making it a Hybird. What is ZipCar's corporate position on such an odd but possibly innovative creation (creature)?

Zipcar's primary goal is to give people the opportunity to live in the City without owning a car. Whatever we put out there that will help people come to the conclusion that they don't need to buy their own (or a second) car is fair game. After that, we look for economy of acquisition and use, which means we will buy cars of good quality that are widely useful.

Not to offend, but why does Zipcar buy so many cars that are rated poorly by magazines like Consumer's Reports?

The latest issue of Consumer's Reports lists the Golf, Beetle, Focus, and Jetta at the very bottom of the list of reliable cars. Low reliability ultimately shows up as higher cost for Zipcar members.

Consumer Reports is one benchmark, Car and Driver another etc. We've had some problems with some cars from time to time, and excellent performance from most of the cars most of the time. Some of the factors to overall cost are things such as residual value, useability and marketing pizzazz as well, so a Focus wagon draws a different crowd than a Beetle or a Civic. We are fortunate to have choices which as a whole provide reliable and fun alternatives to our members.

I have been using Zipcars Golfs, Jettas, and Civics for 3 years now, and they have been very reliable. The Civic is my favorite, largely due to its superb safety, comfort and efficiency. I confess that I will try out a Mini some time soon to satisfy my curiousity.

I echo the above sentiment. I am almost completely satisfied with all of my zipcar user-experiences. I've never had difficulty with any of the cars -- may a little dirt inside from over use -- but that's it.
