Poe's Detective works

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Work of Edgar Allan Poe : One Thread

I know Poe created the frist detective. I am sure he influenced the mystery writes that came after him. What I am wounder is how much he influenced them and where I might find some information on the subject? Even just general observations made. What simalartes are the between Poe's Dupin (is that how you spell it?) And charactors like Holmes, Poirot, Matlock, Nero Wolf, Murder She Wrote, etc.?

Thank you for any help.

well, sir aurther cannon doyle once said ,"whare would the detective story be without poe's dupin?" so i'm sure sir aurther cannon doyle was greatly influenced, and gives credit to poe for being the first to write a detective story.
