Scope calibration

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MILDOT : One Thread

I have been looking at purchasing a scope for a 30 caliber (7.62X39) rifle. I found a springfield scope I like but it says its calibrated for a .223 rifle. What does that mean and will it cause me problems/be a bad scope to put on a 30 cal rifle? The guy recommended me to get the bigger scope with a 56 objective lens, but I don't want anything over a 40. What are anyones thoughts. I'm looking at the springfield 4x14x40 scope. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
