I remember quite some years ago reading a literary work where a flower was sniffed and it ended up being posionous. I thought it was perhaps Edgar Allan Poe; however, I have had no luck thus far in finding it. Does anyone have any idea what the above little bit of information could be from?

Nathaniel Hawthorne's "Rappaccini's Daughter" might be what you are thinking of. Part of group of stories in an old movie too.
