What is Poe's single oeffect on his readers in every one of his stories. Please help me.

Read Poe's essays etc. on the subject. "The Philosophy of Composition" for one. Simply put he emphasizes the goal of creating one strong emotion and having all elements subservient to that effect. The length itself should be short enough so that the emotion is not exhausted or interrupted. References, ideas, plot and especially character get vague, simplified and often inconsequential to the force of the story's feeling. Even the characters admit that their tragedy, their remorse, their victims are nothing compared to the "experience".
