Basics for Boy Scouts

greenspun.com : LUSENET : orienteer kansas : One Thread

I am a Scoutmaster in Wichita, Kansas who would like to be able to have my troop participate in an Orienteering event. There's an requirement in the Boy Scout handbook but this has traditionally been done as a simple compass/map exercise...not (I gather from reading some other sites) real orienteering.

What am I asking for, specifically? It would be great to have a knowledgable person come give a presentation and/or setup a course in our area. If that's not realistic, then is there a fairly easy way I can set up a basic course. I'm not looking to turn the scouts into hardcore orienteers (although that would be great!)--but rather to give them some exposure. THANK YOU!

Bob,

Possum Trot Orienteering Club (of Kansas City) has 4 more events this season: March 22, March 29, April 13, and May 3. It's only 3 hours away, and everything is done for you.

Check out www.ptoc.org

Hope to see you there.
