Well, 4 was hard, 5 & 6 where a little light on the plot, 8 was iffy with the battle tuffness ajusting to your levle, 9 was two easy but 7 and 10 where pretty good.

Oh crap... that didn't post right...

Basically,

FFI in the US was FFI in Japan, FFII in the US was FFIV in Japan, FFIII was FFVI in Japan, FFV was unreleased until it was bundled with FFVI in FF Anthology. FFIV was rerealesed for the PSX along with Chrono Trigger in FF Chronicles. FFI will be rereleased along with the first US release of FFII in FF Origins for PSX. As of current, there are no plans to release the real FFIII in the US...

Also, there are press releases from squaresoft implicating remakes of FFVII, FFVIII, and FFVIX for the PS2 with revamped, mostly 3D graphics (and probably voiceovers!). I found this on IGN, so it's pretty reliable. And, to top that off, a SEQUEL TO FFVII might be made, thanks to the extra funding squaresoft got from their merge.

I've played FF4, 6 and 7 and loved them all! I don't see why Square and Nintendo can't make a deal to take the first 6 FF chapters, remaster the first three that were on the NES and then re-release the entire bundle on GBA. Why GBA? Well, the GBA is the only surviving cartridge system. Catridge systems do have supperior loading speed to CD and DVD systems currently. I've heard tales of people complaining about the loading speed of FF4 and Chrono Trigger on the PS2. A remastered FF7 would really rock! Just update the poloygons and fix up the digital video cutscenes, add some actual voice and whammo!! One awesome re-release of one of the greatest RPG's of all time.

-- Anonymous, March 07, 2003

final fantasy 7 just rocks you can't compare it with any of the other final fantasys i think squaresoft should re-release it.

-- Anonymous, March 27, 2003

How about worst? FFIX sucked big time. FF8 wasn't too good but it had some interesting aspects, I mean it wasn't BOOOORRRIIIINGGG!! I think FF6 was slightly better than 7 but that's just my opinion.

-- Anonymous, March 27, 2003

One of the worst ones I played was probably FF9.Its kind of boring for me.FF7,8 are my favorites and I do hope that they will release the re-make of FF7 soon for the PS2 even if Enix joined with Squaresoft and made Enix president of the company.

-- Anonymous, March 31, 2003

ya me to but i am more hoping i will come out for the gamecube since the graphics are better but ff7 and 8 are the best.

-- Anonymous, April 04, 2003

hey GUESS WHAT!!!!???? YOU PEOPLE SUCK! you people obviously do not know how a real final fantasy game should be. Medival with a few futuristic aspects such as flying boats! not futuristic with medival aspects such as swords. Final Fantasy (I have respect for the full name instead of "FF") 7 and Final Fantasy 8 SUCKED!!! Final Fantasy 6 was just oh so odd compared to the rest of them and Final Fantasy 10 was the only futuristic Final Fantasy game i liked! Final Fantasy 1, 2, and 3 on the NES was awesome (Backthen it was completely ground breaking, Final Fantasy 2/4, and 5 were the second best ever. AND FINALY Final Fantasy 9 once again re awakened the true final fantasy aspect bringing back the Mainly Medival aspect. so any one who likes 7 and 8 the most dont know what a true Final Fantasy game is about. Even Square themselves say that 7 and 8 were their worst creations ever as apose to Final Fantasy Tacticts wich was the UT-MOST GOD AWFUL Final Fantasy game ever made. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles (I love you once again square for making a kick ass NINTENDO (gamecube) Final Fantasy GAME!!!) Is going to reawaken the Nintendo Genre consoles as the best for RPG's

THANK YOU AGAIN SQUARE!!!

FF7 IS THE BESTS OFF THEM ALL. but they could put a better story!!

-- Anonymous, April 07, 2003

Zero X is kinda right about the medievilaspet of final fantasy games as being the true essence of final fantasy game as for the best final fantasy I havetosay in my opinion final fantasy VII was the best ovr all with its inventivness, a true classic. final fantasy VIII sucked something bad mostly because of the way the main hero squall was an idiot and after that the rest of the characters had no life it all evolved around him a self centered moron, final fantasy IX on the other hand had a decent story but it was mainly due to the different types of characters that attracted me to it final fantasy VIII had characters that all seemed to be the same and there wasn't much inventiveness to it final fantasy X had a good story and an ending that was different so it was pretty good but it was too linear. I guess plot and character make up an rpg more than the action itself and an rpg wouldn't be any good without them in the end it all comes down to taste, whatever appeals to you.

-- Anonymous, April 19, 2003

I have to go with FF7! FF10 and 8 were okay. FF7 was just easier to adjust to. Like in FF8 you had draw points. FF10 you have spheres. In FF7 I liked the materia because you can gain more MP but lose more HP. I just think that FF7 was the best. The people at EB games agree with me too. I liked the characters too. Cid and Vincent are my favorite. Yeah so Peace out people! FF ROCKS!

-- Anonymous, April 20, 2003

Oh and I forgot! FF9 STINKS!!!!! IT TOOK ME 5 SECONDS TO RELIZE IT WHEN I FIRST PLAYED IT!!!!!

-- Anonymous, April 20, 2003

Oh and I forgot! FF9 STINKS!!!!! IT TOOK ME 5 SECONDS TO RELIZE IT WHEN I FIRST PLAYED IT!!!!!And FF1 and 2 were GREAT

-- Anonymous, April 20, 2003

Final Fantasy 7 is the worst game in the series. It is a total piece of cock. The series was knocking them dead until this piece of shit was released. It destroyed everything about the series that was good up to that point. Even if you've only played 1, 4, and 6, you know what I mean. The worst thing about is that Square is selling out and making a sequel just to make you little brats happy. I hope the sequel sucks monstrously, and you all curse the day you purchased either of these games. I hope you people never play another Final Fantasy title and die cursing the entire series so those of us in the know can laugh at how stupid you've all been since 1997. May history vindicate me.

-- Anonymous, April 21, 2003

you people don't know what your talking about ff8 sucked you only liked it cos it was either the first one you played or you liked the westernised look of it noone else did. The story was crap the characterisation was crap and the battle system was worse then the whole lot put together. the plot was too damn shady they made the main character squall totally unlikable you can't feel for the hero if you yourself don't like him. I played up to disk 4 and was so bored i gave it away i couldn't be bothered to finish it i mean the music was awfull at least in the other final fantasys you could remember the music in ff8 im happy i didn't and the side games heck it had none what was the point noone likes final fantasy 8 except for the people that visit this page you poor people go read a review on ff8 on the web/mags/ or peoples opinion as for ff7 it was good so was ff9 who both have good characters, 10 no world map ending kinda makes up for the whole game ff6 good as for the guy whos cursing the final fantasy series stop living in the past and go wipe your face.

-- Anonymous, April 22, 2003

People have the right to like or dislike whatever they want, lighten up guys! And FF8 was only the worst until FF9 came out and took over the role, talk about pathetic!

-- Anonymous, April 22, 2003

I dont know shit im a sycho. i only played Finaly Fantasy 10 i though it was great .

-- Anonymous, April 25, 2003

Okay people simmer down, everyone has there own opinions, Just because they don't have the same taste as you doesn't give you a right to not only bark at them but to also inforce your opinions....

Obviously most of you that wrote the negative posts are probably immature or as i would like to call it "Too Young" to think before you speak.

Too keep within the thread, My opinion is I like all of them except for....... I, (Yes many of you think i am crazy for hating the Original) III, Tatics, and IX. VII and X are my personal favorites.

And to qoute Zero X, "Final Fantasy 1, 2, and 3 on the NES was awesome"

Umm..... isn't II, and III on SNES not NES? lol.

Also, Medevil or not Role Playing is Role Playing no matter in what type of time, etc. I play RPG games mainly because of the plot. If the game is a really nice story line i'd love it, If you are just in it for the fighting sequences mainly then to me your not really a RPG fan.

I myself enjoy almost all of Square's Role Playing games. Kingdom Hearts was pretty good too but i think it was pretty stupid to make it "E" for Everyone and have the type of feeling of characters for a 10 year old meanwhile only a 13+ person can actually beat it, Should have made it a "T" for Teen game like most RPG's.

-- Anonymous, April 27, 2003

The Japanese FF I, II and III - never released in the US as far as I know, were on NES. The Japanese IV, V and VI were released on SNES as FF I, II and III, hence your confusion.

-- Anonymous, April 27, 2003

I have completed FF I through X as of today (beat FF3j), i like them in this order:

IV: characters so memorable, all had their own purpose in your party VI: gotta love the airship where you can select out of 14 characters V: the job system in this game makes for complex battles VII: some of the hardest battles, best spells, lots of sidequests IX: retro. the only FF game i have enjoyed since VII III: best nes rpg I: laid the foundation II: annoying leveling-up system, small world X: too linear, lame characters, graphics good VIII: ugly world, retarded characters, annoying battles, annoying game

I respect people's opinions, but if any else say's that final fantasy 7 sucks, there will be murders. It is the best game ever made and the game of the year, two times in a year proves my point I think. The only one that was not up to par was final fantasy 9. Was still good though. I'v finished from 1 to 10 several times and all my friends agree that this is the order they should be in. 7,5,10,3,8,5,4,6,9

-- Anonymous, May 22, 2003

To Clarify the NES/SNES questions, its quite simple. Final Fantasy 1, 2, and 3 were released for the NES/Famicom console system. Only Final Fantasy I made it to the US. Final Fantasy 4, 5 and 6 were released on the SNES/SuperFamicon console system. Only 4 and 6 made it to the US. I know that some were rereleased on the Playstation. I however have played them all, thanks to emulation and the hard working translation teams who made it possible to play every single final fantasy game.

As for the new Final Fantasys, I can'y really judge them. I'm playing 7 right now, and the story isn't bad. I don't like the fururistic crap that got involved, but they had to do something new.

Basically, in my opinion, Final Fantasy 1 and Final Fantasy 5 are the best of the series. Why? Well, its simple. Final Fantasy 1 got me into the entire RPG scene. It was far superior to Dragon Warrior, was alot more fun, and had an interesting story. Final Fantasy 5 has a wonderful story, and a totally new class type system where you can change classes on the fly. I thought that was the most innovative idea they ever thought up

Just my two thoughts :)

Please people. Clearly Final Fantasy 8 and 9 were the worst Final Fantasies ever. Final Fantasy 7 was the best one, and I have yet to play any better on the franchise. As for the whole technological aspect of Final Fantasy, whether the proper mix is technology in a mystical world or mysticism in a technical world, it doesn't matter. The writters determine what it is to be Final Fantasy, not us. Clearly Final Fantasy 7 is a Final Fantasy, why? Because it is, the writters made it knowing it was to be a Final Fantasy and that's how it is. As for 8. I don't even want to think about that sorry excuse for a gaming experience. 9 was only marginally better, if at all. The charecters were far too wacky and outrageous in 9 to be considered playable.

-- Anonymous, May 30, 2003

i like 5,7,8and9 but its hard to say what one i like best...10 is just squrewy it made all the games look bad i hate final fantasy 10.even the fighting with the aeons is lame sorry it just is. uh p.s. dont you mean squall not skuall?

-- Anonymous, May 30, 2003

My favorite is definately 7 then 8, i really didn't like tactics if you class that as a proper FF game

-- Anonymous, May 30, 2003

I have been a fan of Final Fantasy since playing the first release on the PS Final Fantasy VII, since that day I craved and loathed every other addition. I love the Fantasy git. But you all seems so inempt to believe that the middle series is crap and that is original and new direction is the best, eg. FF7 is the best masterful, just like FF4 before it and FF1 before that, and now we have FF10, everything inbetween is never good enough for everyone. FF1, 4, 7, 10, seem to be everyones best, but I like them all, everyone is different and lets me live a few hours as something compeling and obscure, I don't hate any of them, but if I had to choose a worse, or a least favourible, i would have to say FF2. That doesn't mean I hate it though, I just think it's the lesser of the bunch. As for you think-you-know-it-all people, explain character development in terms of FFVIII and FFIX, VIII was the biggest jump in graphic history to it's predecessor, and the characters where so minfully developed i loathed and awed at the story more, it compeled real life, the hiddenness of each character the continuing change that everyone made as they encounter plausable cause, from Squall's pigheaded arrogence, to Vivi's shyness and bewilderment. FFVII is not the best, it had an amazing sense of style and glamor, very interesting compeling and joyfully gleefull, but I have to say I love Final Fantasy X, it screams to me when I sleep.

-- Anonymous, June 04, 2003

yeah... ff7 is the best rpg. but the best game ever made is DOOM, gaerokshe beebak-Mallaack! KRUU KRU MARA TURUME!

-- Anonymous, June 07, 2003

I have played FF1-3 in NES, FF4-6 FFMQ in SNES and FF7-9 & FFT in PS1. From those I would say that FF8 is the most pathetic. FF8 failed with the characters and the gameplay (monster are the same level as the average party level therefore not much of a challenge). The best would be between FF6 and FF7, the gameplay, storyline and character interaction was awesome it had almost everything from a great evil character to a great gameplay. I just hope that the next FF will allow you to have more control than FF10.

-- Anonymous, June 07, 2003

Well, as it seems that very many of you are incompetent, or small children whose first Final Fantasy was either 7-10 I can understand you inane reasons of naming any of those the best. By far the Final Fantasy with the best story would have to be Final Fantasy VI. That game really does have it all. The evil character and last boss is substantially the most evil thing in video game history. He had no reasons for doing what he did, just that he could and he had the power to do it. Not to mention if you spend all your time on it, it can last much longer than any other Final Fantasy. I know that that can be warped however, but I can beat Final Fantasy VII in 6 hours and 23 minutes (without everything). And I can only beat Final Fantasy VI in 10 hours (its very difficult with only Setzer, Celes, Sabin, and Edgar. VERY difficult.). I know that most of you must be thinking 'he's stupid' and perhaps I am but I too have played through every Final Fantasy and every hard type Final Fantasy. That is not a feat but as I see it many Final Fantasies blow. There are quite a few terrible ones. Final Fantasy I, I did not mind it, really. It had a neat story and when it came out it really was groundbreaking, it also had the potenial to be the absolute hardest game in the world. Four White mages can be quite difficult, you know. Final Fantasy II made me want to die ferociously. The gameplay and battles were nice, yes, but the story was so pathetic and the main thing that turned me off of it was getting the AirShip as soon as you got out of your main town. Of course you can't use it completely, but it's still pathetic. However, that game is not all bad. Final Fantasy III was interesting, I have no beef against that game since they did so much with their limited capabilities on the NES. Final Fantasy IV is much revered as it is truly a magnificent game. The plot truly is quite strong, although some boss battles are meaningless and very hard. Although I play a Final Fantasy for story, and I had very little trouble passing through that game even on hard type. Final Fantasy V was fun, the job classes made it so you could do outrageous things (such as have a cleric attack a behemoth with its fists and win), and the story was nicely developed as well, character development could have become a little more essential in that game though. As I said before Final Fantasy VI broke the standards, the music was very good and the characters were nicely developed (Except for a few, Relm, Setzer, Umaro, and Mog). The story was very well written and it does crucially expand the powers of the SNES. Final Fantasy VI is the best Final Fantasy in my mind. Final Fantasy VII is a contradiction in my mind, it was the first Final Fantasy I beat and the first Final Fantasy I played. Most people say that the first Final Fantasy that you beat is your favorite, but VI takes the cake. Final Fantasy VII is a very good game though, the boss battles are all very simple, but the greatest part of the game would easily be the materia. The materia and getting the materia. Final Fantasy VII did not introduce Limit Breaks (Final Fantasy VI thank you very much), but it sure did push them to their limits, they're like a limited magic attack that does mammoth damage. However, Final Fantasy VII is lacking a strong plot and a decent final boss. Sephiroth seems like an entity that you have to fight and have little connection with him personally. But besides all that Final Fantasy VII still does hold a high rank on my favorite video games ever. Don't get me started on anything after VII, here's how one can sum them all up; shit, shit and a very bad plot. Fighting in all of the last Final Fantasies have been substandard, the only difficult boss that I have fought in the last three final Fantasies was Seymour, and that was just prejudice to your charcters since he really was too strong for that area. Don't get me wrong, they all still have interesting characters and good grahics, but graphics don't matter and the characters are still substandard. If you read all my post I thank you, and if you didn't I'll just make a summary at the bottom. Final Fantasy Order of Greatness: 6, 7, 4, (all closely tied) 5, 1, 3, 2, 8, 9, 10. Please tell me if you disagree, but I believe I have more consistent facts and a more dedicated lifestyle than many of you.

Mines FF8 . Cuz of da weapons. Gunblades kick ass.

-- Anonymous, June 13, 2003

Um guys, if 8,9, or 10 are your favorites at least pay Final Fantasy 7 a little respect. It paved the way for Serious, plot involved PS Final Fantasy's (no offence to the earlier guys, notice i said PS) and made sure Square had the money and motivation to do the others. In my opinion FF7 is the best and I think they shoud make a sequel or remake but im not gonna force my opinion on anyone so please just enjoy Final Fantasy, any of them.

-- Anonymous, July 08, 2003

FF7 owns em all. I never get bored of it and get into it in the beginning. All you medieval lovers... go suck a nut.

-- Anonymous, July 18, 2003

FF7 is the best FF game. Ever been to gamefaqs.com? There was once a vote for the best FF game and the top three in order were 7, 8, then 6, or maybe 10, I'm not 100% sure. And I also know that Square's biggest hit was FF7... It made more money than any of there their releases.

-- Anonymous, July 19, 2003

FF7 was my first real rpg. Thanks to it I'm an rpg fan. Let's say that i've almost played every FF gtame there is and i can tell u, FF7 is the best, the characters........ each has it's own ambition, to know Cloud's life was a lie, to play in memories, to deal againnst Cloud's weakend mind. I think every player, exept for Vincent and Yuffie, who are optional, has it's own story. Also, where else can u see an FF character die as dramaticly as Aeris (Aerith in Japanese)? I know Gramps died in FF4 but still..... Another pointy fact, there are MANY things to do in that game such as the snowboarding mini-game and the chocobo one too. The last thing is the antagonist, Sephiroth is the best bad guy in ALL history of rpg's. Some eventried to copy it..... Kuja from FF9 tried to combine the two worlds, Seymour from FFX tried tom destroy Spira by becoming Sin and make it Rebirth as a inmortal one but Sephiroth was his alone, he wanted to hurt the world so he could fuse with it and become it by releasing the Black Materia, Meteor. His was a perfect ambition for a crazy traumed bad guy thanks to the influence of genova Mako energy and th crazy old scientist.

Well, i got a little inspired but i think ff7 is the best fallowed by ffX. I like 'couse the aeons have personality and reason for existing. But really think ff9 sux, come on, haw can the last boss be the "bad" in every one?

-- Anonymous, October 09, 2003

i own every final fantasy and must argue that final fantasy 6 (or 3 on SNES) is the absolute best. maybe not the best grafics but definately the best storyline and gameplay.

-- Anonymous, October 21, 2003

I have to say that after reading every single post and drawing from my own experience playing 1-10 I think the best ones are Final Fantasy 7,Final Fantasy 10 ,and Final Fantasy 6. Even though the ones that stayed with me the most were 3 and 4. But let's just all agree on one thing the worst Final Fantasy Game wasn't 9 or even 8 in my opinion the worst one had to be the impossible and boring Final Fantasy Tactics. Okay! Okay.
