Something to look forward Too

Sometime in my old age, maybe 70 or 75 or 80, you know just before they start talking rest home, I've decided to really blow it out! Why not get yourself some of those real nasty wonderful addictions. I'm gonna take up smoking, drinking, pot, chocolate, junk food, all the stuff we don't want to do when you got some years ahead! Life is all about timing! Why not? Use those last years for being stoned! Ha!

I got to thinking seriously about it when I was in the hospital and the were giving me Morphine. Damn thats goooood stuff! Anyway what kind of addiction would you like if time didn't matter anymore?

What do you think? Maybe the end doesn't have to be so bad?....Kirk

Well, I already love chocolate. And it loves me back -- it turns into fat and stays around FOREVER. Urgh! So if it wouldn't turn to fat, that would be my addiction of choice. However, being fat is no fun at any age, but a creaky old decrepit person has enough problems without adding fat into it. So hard to get around -- I've known fat people (not that old either) confined to wheelchairs because their joints couldn't carry their weight. {shudder} Which is why I persevere with weight loss.

I've never had morphine, and I don't want any. Other members of my family who have had it suffered horrendous nightmares. They say it's not worth it, and I have no reason to believe I'd have a different experience. If I ever need painkillers, I'll be making sure they aren't morphine based!

Sorry Kirk, I'm not making this a fun experience am I? I think being old is bad enough . . . perhaps MY addiction will be to BEING ALIVE. ;-)

Sounds good to me Kirk, but why do we have to wait sooo long? Can't we start while we can really still enjoy ourselves? Lets see what would be on my list...24 year old gorgeous longhaired men, plenty of good wine, organic legal pot, chocolate, Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I better stop now.

My Mom's addicted to Percaset and feels good all the time. She knows when it runs out and suddenly has to take half a pill (which is pretty much all the time) I don't think I'd like something like that.

I don't think you're lookin' for addictions so much as indulgences>. Addictiions are never positive; they are a never- ending series of a few hours of pleasure, followed by oppressive guilt and self-loathing, followed by once again giving in to the this thing (they're all the same really) that controls your life.

But I agree that shakin loose when you're older (or even right now! life is too short to mope around all the time) is a good idea; throwing caution to the wind, not giving a rip what other people think. Like the 'When I am old, I will wear purple' poem. I would love to smoke a little weed again, but we totally gave that up the minute I became pregnant, 20 yrs ago. Maybe when the kids are gone, and we could guarantee where it came from, since I hear so many horror stories about modern hybrid stuff (what else is new).

I've fought adddiction all my life, and the only thing positive about it is it has made me much more aware of and sensitive to the foibles of others, less judgemental and arrogant than I otherwise would have been.

I think Frank Sinatra had the same sentiments you do Kirk. I seem to remember that after having given up smoking for 'a while', he finally just gave up and said, ' to hell with it - I'm 70 years old.'

I guess if S.S. does tank, what would an older person have to lose if their check wasn't enough to live on. Free room and board . . . library privliges . . . what would you have to lose? (said with tongue firmly in cheek :^)).

Hey EM, nice to see you.

Hey, when we get decrepit, medicinal pot might be readily available.

I think that when I get old, I'll be looking forward to spending the rest of my life without worrying about when the mortgage is due...or the truck payment or whatever else is due!! The only bill I HOPE I'll be receiving each year is the poperty tax bill!! I really want to be able to be self-supporting (food, necessities, etc) and I hope that I wont need much...if any...Soc. Sec.!!

Well...maybe a bottle or two of Southern Comfort or a good rum occasionally would help!!! I don't think I would want to get "involved" in an addiction of any kind...BUT, at the age of 70, 75 or 80...hell, even a 60 yr. old man would look good :-)!!!!!

Yeah, morphine in the hospital was pretty good...except that it felt like a sitting on a hornet for a prolonged period of time, so I'd always wait until the surgery pain outweighed the pain of the shot in the butt -- once it set in, then it was a nice sensation, but as Joy said, the nightmares! They are hideous and they seem to be totally real when you're having them.

I think that maybe nitrous oxide is better, except sometimes it makes me think that maybe I'm going to actually die in the dentist's chair instead of just calm down, and then oops! I can't really enjoy it, it's just another case of getting through more dental work.

I guess my real addiction of choice is that I'd probably buy more horses...or other critters. Oh, and how about non-stop back-rubs and back scratching!!! I could really get into that! (foot rubs also acceptable).

Foot rubs are most excellent, Julie!! I could very easily get addicted to them :-)! Very relaxing. Aren't there several pressure points on feet that when rubbed, they can almost cure whatever else is going on in your body!?? I need to get myself an acupressure book...!

My grandfather's mental condition has deteriorated severely over the past few months. He no longer knows where he is or recognizes any of his family. But he does ask anyone who visits him to scratch his back and rub his feet. That foot rub reflex must be buried pretty deep in the brain. :)

I have to laugh cuz my cat lays upside down on my lap with her paws in the air and justs love gettin them little things rubbed! Dang that little thing really owns me!

I didn't have any bad dreams under morphine. Wonder why? Maybe its because I didn't GET any sleep at all in the hospital!!!
