Drum scanning negatives

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I have tried scanning negatives using drum scanner. But was disappointed with the results. It is more grainy/noise then the scanning from prints. Have anyone out there tried this before? If anyoner out there knows the result why please kindly reply... thanks!

Yes its nearly impossible to get good results. Drum scanners are just not set up for negative. I have a drum scanner and I have given up on trying!

it all depends on the kind of drumscanner you have and software you use to run it. I'm a retoucher and I have a Aztek drum scanner and a good 90% of all the scans i do are negatives, and i would say scans from neg are much better the scans from prints for density and sharpness. There are ways to control the Grainy/noise results by controlling the appature
