header trick question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

i'm going to attempt the "vcd header trick" today because i've been disappointed with the quality of the regular vcds i've made. but i'm wondering, after i've changed the header "mpeg-1 vcd" in TMPGEnc, the resolution will be the same as it was when i started with my mpeg2 video file? also, i'm using ulead video studio 7 to burn the disc, when i'm doing this should i burn the disc as a vcd or svcd? thanks for your help...

The resolution will not be changed. You should burn it as a non-compliant VCD. Do not burn as SVCD if you put a VCD header on it.

You don't give a lot of details on what you're doing, but do you understand that the header trick is only supposed to be used on DVD players that won't play SVCDs? If your DVD player supports SVCD, you gain nothing by doing this. It won't improve quality at all. It's only a way to fool a DVD player into playing a SVCD by making it look like a non-standard VCD.
