I am curious as to the value of several books I have of Poe's work. They were published in 1856 by A. C. Armstong & Sons, New York

Sorry, but I think you are confusing a "copyright" date (1856), and the actual date of Armstrong-publication (not before 1884!), of some reprint, (in six volumes, for example, with the new Stoddard introductory matters and several additional items), of the 1850-56 Griswold 4-vols NY Redfield (later Widdleton, &c) edition of Poe's "Works".
