Savage 112 .223

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MILDOT : One Thread

I just bought a savage 112 chambered for the .223 used at a pawn shop. It has a 26 inch heavy barrel and a laminated black stock. The action is a long action. Can anyone give me more information on which 112 this is? Any opinons on this rifle good or bad would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have the same rifle. The person I got it from had a great trigger job done on it. I took it to Montana and took a lot of praire dogs with it. I have two confirmed kills at 700 yards. And alot from 300 to 400. Find the right loads or try some blak hills ammo or ultramax. good luck.

I've got a short action version of that same rifle. Its a M12flv. I get consistant 1/2 moa groups with factory ammo at 100 yards. My best group to date is a 5/8 group at 300 yards. These groups were obtained with the factory trigger whitch isn't that great. My advice is get a good trigger job and keep the barrel clean and I think you will be happy.

I own one of those exact rifles. They are no longer in production. The model number is a 112 BV. I have had good luck with mine using mostly reloads. I do not do a lot of paper punching but hit squirrels and other small varmints at 100-200 yards very consistently. It is one of the few .223's out there with a 26" barrel which does little for accuracy but does improve velocity by ~100 fps. You can also rebarrel that gun very easily due to the barrel nut configuration of the savage rifle. MidwayUSA.com sell barrels, bolts, magazines, etc. to convert your gun to most any caliber up to a .338 Win Mag I believe. Matt
