I wanted to know if there is any way to split a Divx file (.avi, .mpeg) into two smaller .avi/.mpeg files so it can be burned to a cd-r for playback in a dvd player. Thanks

There are various AVI editors available. See http://www.divx-digest.com and http://www.doom9.net. You could split your DivX into the appropriate size and then convert to VCD. http://www.vcdhelp.com has guides on converting to VCD if you need help with that.
