Zipcar Corporate & Car Ownership

Recently as I was checking on world events, I saw a video clip about ZIPCAR in DC on the BBC website.

I was intruiged when the reporter asked the ZIPCAR representative if he owned his own car, and responded "You had to ask me that, didn't you?... Yes."

We hear alot about the excitement and statistics of the growing popularity of ZIPCAR, but my curiosity has been aroused. Approximately how much of the ZIPCAR employee population owns their own vehicles?

About 30 per cent. Mostly those with families or long commutes or both. And we're all Zipcar members.

I was the interviewee on that clip. I have only been on board for a month or so, and have already thought about getting rid of my car due to the cost. The 4wd and convertible features of my Jeep have me holding on so far, but I will probably sell it by the end of the summer (glad I have it for this storm though).

While it is obviously best for our planet if every Zipcar member can give up owning any car, it is still beneficial if the Member can forego a second car thanks to the availability of Zipcars. Even couples that need to drive to get to both of their jobs are doing this around Boston, as they have found that they can carpool in different ways while Zipcar keeps their weekends fully flexible.
