Protestant, marry a catholic, once divorced

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I came across this via an internet search, and praise the answers that have been given to many in need!

My situation is similar, but in order to keep calm here in PA, I would hope that you might be able to email me personally.

I am from N.Ireland, met my girlfriend here perhaps a year ago, and we are discussing marriage in a catholic church in which she belongs. Unfortunately I have been divorced, in which we we married only for 3 mths. I was in separated from that point on until a divorce was given. My previous marriage was not in church, but that of a court house. In my heart I did not marry in front of God - I love my g/f very much, and she fears that this may disrupt any thought of a catholic marriage. Is this true? Considering I am not from a catholic background, nor did I previously marry in a church of any religion?

Thanks so much and god bless.

Hi, Wayne --

In my opinion you should make an appointment with a priest that you both like and trust. It may be possible to have your first marriage annulled, which would free you to marry in the Catholic Church. But a priest would be the one who could tell you for sure. God bless you and good luck! :-)

Thankyou, we will do that. I have read many situations on this board, some good, some bad, but I honestly believe if you have faith, there will be a way.

Thankyou
