Reaching teens on the topic of Sexuality

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Hi everybody, I just wanted to share an experience with you we had last night which was truely awesome!

The past monthe we have been going over the topic of sexuality with our teens, with little success until last night.

Last night one of my friends who had a very turbulent previous life gave a testimony which rivited our teens and sent a message of abstinance home.

My frined was a teen mom, she told of her abusive relationships she had been in, hre teen pregnancy, teh trouble she had been in, the one abortion she had been coerced to have, and finally her conversion to the Church and finding of a loving husband. She mentioned that she and her husband were comitted to living chastity unitl married and explained the difference that true love made in her life.

After her testimony we had about 15 minutes of adoration of the Eucharist with a short directed prayer.

Many of teh teens afterwards approaced me and said that the presentation made them really reflect on their own lives. Throughout the prayer and presentation teh teens were attentive, respectful, and interested! You might say that we got our message across in a way and effectiveness we had not expected! It was truly a moment of grace!

God bless you all and please pray for our teens!

Joe

Dear Joseph, I appreciate your story. I strongly believe there is no more powerful teaching then from a personal testimony. Young people see quickly if you're for real or not, and they have their share of phonies. God be with our kids.

God bless your friend for coming forward and bearing witness in such a powerful and important way!

From your last posts - don't you have sex on brain, Joe?

At least 85%+ of our teens do! It's a topic which needs to be treated in a wise manner without sounding preachy. I just think it is amazing to ever connect with a teen on this topic!

Joseph

you more or less represent all that is wrong with the practice of the faith in the world.

a cocktail of sentimantality and hocus-pocus.

that might save you on therapists fees but it is simply not Catholic.
