Anyone preparing for a Lenten fast? What's the Holy Spirit saying to you?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Anna, Jake read me something beautiful you wrote on Lenten fasting that resonated in my heart, something about 'practicing saying no to the devil's temptations', would you share it with us here?

I'm going to pray about giving t.v. up, i don't really watch too much, but can easily get out the old remote in times of boredom. I desire to purpose to give it up, but don't want to make an empty promise.

By the way.. for those of us Californians...there is a huge massive intercessory prayer effort to converge on California, starting with a rally in the Rose Bowl in L.A. {they are targeting praying for purity and coming against all the pornography in Hollywood}, and from there, with a 40-day fast, going on to San Francisco for a rally on April 5, at Candlestick park, where they are expecting 50,000 youth!

Let's keep a 'heads up' on what the Holy Spirit is about to do. In Christ, Theresa

Bravo! Wonderful! Try it for a week. You'll be amazed at the results. I promise.

Get yourself free. TRASH THE TV!

Oh, and on the subject of fasting, has anyone ever heard of this?

I'd like to give up dyeing my hair blonde, but am afraid the results might terrorize the innocent little children in my apartment building. ;-)

Hi Theresa, I think your son is just a wonderful human being; you must be very proud of him. I didn't post that statement on phatmass regarding Lent. It was posted by an 18 year old high school student from Texas named Maria, who uses the screen name "JMJLittleFlower." She wrote: "I always amaze my non-catholic friends when Lent comes around with the whole no-meat stuff...they love it and sometimes do it too. I tell them its when the devil tries to tempt us with things, we can be strong enough to say NO to sin! So this is our...practice, I guess..but then it's also to not let materialism or anything keep us away from God." Is that the post to which you are referring?

Dear Theresa,

I hope Jake doesn't get a big head with all these compliments he is getting lately! :)

Anna, I told Theresa the very same thing about Jake. Littleflower is a very spiritually mature young lady and has some profund things to say. She is quite impressive.

Oh, I forgot to answer your question. The Holy Spirit is telling me to spend more time in prayer and less time on the Internet...

Thanks MaryLu! Hope you will be steadfast in your resolution! Max

MaryLu, I, too, have had my conscience pricked regarding the amount of time I spend on the internet. I do love reading all the posts and responding when I feel I can contribute; however, due to my slow working computer and my lack of computer skills, I spend way too much time at the computer, thus neglecting the daily duties of my vocation. I must discipline myself more in this regard. While I still hope to get online daily (!) I must set some limits for myself...The dishes must be done, table cleared, laundry put away, etc....at that rate, I won't be able to get online until midnight, but at least I won't feel guilty about it when I do! I love all you folks and don't want to lose you...but you are a temptation to me! Pax Christi <>< Anna

ML and Anna, what a delight to hear what God is doing in you two holy lady's lives. Anna God must be so pleased with your life of love and sacrifice to be raising up an army for Him!!

Jacob's cool, I like him too! Praise you Jesus!!!!

isn't it amazing how hours can go by while visiting the forum??

off to work...bless your day!!

-- Theresa (Rodntee4Jesus@aol.com), February 11, 2003.

I agree wit you, Theresa - what a delight to hear these resolutions from both of them!

Dear Anna,

I, too, have been neglecting my household chores while on the Internet. The days I have off from work should be used to clean my house, and attend to all my chores, but they are not as much fun nor are they as interesting as being on the Internet reading everyone's posts.

I do not contribute that often to posting. I think I must sound like an old fuddy dud to these young people - I can't relate to the teenagers on their level - forgot how to do that :)

I am going to discipline myself more...I will pray for God's help in that area. I can accomplish a lot more by praying that I can by being on here - but I do love my "cyber-friends." I have met some wonderful, warm, intelligent people on the forums - their intellect puts me to shame.

Have a wonderful day - I think I will go finish the laundry! :)
