i dont think that marrying his cousin was all that bad if you remember that this was in the 1800's a long time ago when there wasent as much shit going on with the whole incest thing. but if it happend now that would be a different story.

Typically, incest requires the involvement of blood parents or siblings, although first cousins technically count in places where such a marriage would be illegal. Historically, marrying even first cousins is very common. I understand that it is still legal in some states in the US. At the very least, it is unfair to judge Poe by modern values.
