In searching for information about Mail/Express trains in the '50's if found a reference to P-5 locomotives. In these archives I find P-5-a and P-5-b references to 4-6-2 locomotives - question - what causes the difference in the A vs B designation? Robert Nelson Whiteville, NC

The answer you are seeking is well explored in Prince's book on ACL Steam Locomotives. I believe that this volume is still available from the Society-see the part of the site dealing with books and other merchandise. The book covers ACL steam locomotives in great detail.
