I got babies!

I knew she was going to have them today but had to go to work. When I came home, there were three babies. Unfortunately, one was dead. I thought I saw some movement on her side so I called the breeder for information. Guess it was gas. Anyway, I was all upset because I should have been there and I maybe I could have saved the third one but the breeder said to look at it's eyes. If they are glassy, it was stillborn. It was. The second one was still slimmy and dirty from the stuff the doe dug up for nesting and I couldn't get it cleaned or dry and it was shivering so I brought it in. I said to my husband, "Sorry Sweetie, had to bring a goat into the house. It was only in the shower" :) Poor little thing was really enjoying the warm water. Put her in the sink to dry off. Oh, she looked so cute. I should have taken a picture. I put her by the woodstove, put a little sweater on her (actually, the sleeve of an old shirt) brought her back to Momma and all seems to be going well. The other one is a buck. A doe died.

Yes, we finally have the woodstove working but we are having a heatwave here (35o) so everyone was complaining that it was too hot. Guess we got used to not having it. Really could have used it during that -0 temp.

I decided to paint the stairwell in the basement without a basecoat. I wanted my hubby to put on the primer because the smell makes me sick and got tired of waiting. So I'll just have to do a few coats. It actually doesn't look too bad now. One more coat tomorrow and then I'll hit the carpet that has been in storage in the garage for a few years. I keep asking him to call his carpet guy friend...guess I'll be doing that myself too.

Hope everyone is okay.

Congratulations, Dee!!!! Too bad about the third baby, but you can't save them all. I remember one year I had kids born on Jan 28th during a really cold spell and I "resized" some of my son's old t-shirts to fit the babies!! Now I just keep a large dog crate ready in the barn with a heat lamp for the early kids. My does (only two this year) are due any minute and my granddaughter calls me constantly asking if it's "time" yet!

We had a "heat wave" here today, too. It was 42 degrees after having a semi-ice storm last night. We've been having temps no higher than 20 degrees or so for the past month! Another storm (rain) expected tomorrow with temps of 30+ degrees. Really weird weather this year!!!

Again....congrats on your new kids!!!!!

Hooray Dee!

Congratulations!

I've had all manner of my wardrobe on my critters, too. One year, I had a fleece jacket of mine on one of our Nubians. It was fine until he started dragging the sleeves into the mud and then tripping all over himself. He wouldn't leave the sleeves rolled up. I didn't want to cut the sleeves off or pin them up (ugh! safety pins and goats! No Way!).

I've lost a few babies (lambs) and while it's sad, it happens.

Good luck with your babies!
