There are many theories on Poe's death. Until recently the most common belief of his death was that he was found drunken to death in an alley. It is also beleived he may have been diabetic. But now the most likely way that Poe died was because of rabies. His autoposy displayed that this would be the most likely way he went.

While attempting to cross the street, steps away from his spacious home in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx, N.Y., Poe was run over by an automobile. This was a common occurance back then since cars had not yet been invented and people had no idea what to make of them, let alone how to get out of their way.

Poe lived many places, not only in NY. He died in NYC in 1849, That's all I was able to find out at the seance.

Then you both went to the wrong seances! He died in Baltimore, and the cause is still unknown, although there're many theories.
