Blessing a marriage

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

To make a long story short, I did not convert due to family politics. My husband was born and raised Catholic and we had a Christian wedding which was not blessed or performed by a priest but a minister. Four years later I decided to forego family politic and decided to take the RCIA course and am now Catholic. I was asked if our marriage was blessed by a priest because our second child (due in March) needs to be baptised. What is involved? Carolyn

As usual, the answer is simple - go to your local pastor, he will tell you what to do so that your marriage is validitated. It can be a very straight-forward procedure! You have nothing to worry about in front of the priest... What you want to do is a good thing.

Question: If a priest blesses a marriage, does that mean it will reduce or even remove the liklihood of a marriage ending up in divorce ?

With the graces of the sacrament of matrimony sustaining a marriage, I would certainly think so! It is only grace from God that has held my marriage together for 23 years; otherwise, I don't think we could've put up with each other sometimes!
