ive already been diagnosed w/avn in left hip. what kind of dr do i need to see?

I have been diagnosed by means of MRI with avn in my left hip a little over 1 year ago. I went in for the MRI because of extreme pain and discomfort in my right hip and groin area, and the dr had an MRI done and found the avn in my left hip. She doesn't know whats going on with my right hip and groin area but thinks maybe a very pinched nerve. my primary care physician (the dr who makes all referrals to my insurance co for me)absolutely refuses to believe anything is wrong with me, refuses to look at the mri results and basically refuses to believe or help me. i felt lucky when i got him to agree to refer me to a neurosurgeon. my appointment is jan. 28th. i'm wondering if this is the right kind of a physician that can help me with my existing avn, and also help to find out why i am hurting so much in my other hip. i am exhausted and drained from the pain and all the vicoden. any thoughts on how i go about finding the proper help would and will be welcomed. peace debbieG

AVN

You should probably see an orthopaedic surgeon if you have AVN of the hip.

My husband had AVN in the left hip and NOW has it also in the right hip!! It is Atypical AVN as he has never used sterioids, had an injury or uses alcohol...However, the first time he had it, his DR did a CORE DECOMPRESSION in which a drill is inserted into the femur and causes blood to flow again to the site of the AVN. It has worked in the left hip for almost 6 years now...So you might want to consider that option to a hip replacement.
