Hey, can somebody help me out? I need to know what the theme of 'The Gold Bug' is.

The theme is the uncovering of the mysttery of a buried pirate treasure through clever deductions and discoveries of hidden writing, cipers and other clues. Th excitement increased by the dark history, the golden prospects and sharing details with reader piece by piece is as much a part of the goal of this tale as the solution of the puzzle.

The puns on the Gold Bug, it's death head markings etc., being bitten "by the bug" of gold fever is something the '49er Gold Rush era could appreciate- and it was closer to home than Californa.
