How to cut parts from a dat file???

How do I cut a part from a vcd file. I tried vcdcutter but it allowed me to cut only 7 secs of clip. When I tried using virtualDub, it gave an error. I think its because the vcd had some scratch parts. Any way to go about this problem???? P.S. I just want to convert the part of file to mp3 or vcd, not keep the video file.... Thanks for the help

At the time of cutting of the picture as we know the 7 sec. is going to complet we again press the record button twice and do the recording for more no. of seconds.

if not please suggest me.

Thanks for the help ... but i was hopping for something simpler. Like, a software, maybe shareware, that can easily do the task of extracting sounds from a dat file, that might be corrupted. thanks

Use TMPGEnc to cut any mpeg file ... youre worry about .DAT (VCD) with a long convert to MPEG? dont worry, change file extension then it should work. Here an example: AVSEQ01.DAT and AVSEQ01.mpg

To show file extensions, go to Folder Options: VIEW tab, rolldown you will see "Hide Extensions for known file types" .. uncheck that ofcourse. Now you will see your VCD file something like AVSEQ01.DAT now you know what to do... just rename it whatever you like but remember the extension must be change to ".mpg" . Well, if youre already know this then go to next step:

How to cut your favorites part on MPEG file using TMPEnc:

Start TMPEnc -> File -> MPEG Tools:

Go to the last tab = Merge & Cut -> Add your MPEG file there

Click on the file you just add (highlight it) and choose EDIT:

Well play, forward, rewind ... whatever just choose your favorites part (you can set the RANGE time there on top. By cutting part use { for start and } for end. (you should see it below the PLAY and STOP button there)

Well! done that? .. ready to get the file? .. hit OK it should bring you back to the selection and ofcourse you need to choose your OUTPUT folder. Thats it FOLKS!!!

If still confusing, let me know (email me) i will explain whats part you dont understand.

GoodLuck guys :)
