64MB - Card Error

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Imaging Resource Discussion : One Thread

I fomatted 64 MB (mfr SAN) in my C-840L. Camera displayed info that I had 192 pictures to go. I had taken about 120 pictures, when the camera displayed "Card Error" and prompted med to "Format Card". I did NOT format the card again (if I did, I would certainly have lost all pictures already taken). Turned the memory in (5 yrs guarantee !) to a camerashop and they turned in to to the mfr (SAN). They in turn contacted Olympus. They both blamed the camera, saying that it could only format up to 16MB. All files/pictures are still on the card, but itīs a big mess and can not be reconstructed according to them. The camera manual did not say anything about maximum memory that could be handled. How could I be able to format it in the first place ? Why no warning in the camera display ? And why did the memory loose the formatting after 120 pictures ? Now, to my question: Does anyone know any way for me to extract the pictures from the card to my PC ??

An excellent company in the UK www.flash-card-recovery.co.uk can do it for you. They should also be able to answer why it happened in the first place.

Thanks Glen. I visited their site and it seems to be what I was looking for. I will report the results to this forum.

Sorry to say, but as of today March 25th, I still haven't received any reply from them.

Probably they are not as skilled as we believed.

Voila... Problem solved.

Found what I needed. An excellent programme: "PhotoRescue".

at http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/download.htm

It worked. ALL my pictures were recovered. In less than 1 minute.

Amazing.
