How can I create a VCD using MOV or SWF (prefer) files?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I use Flash to make a swf file and then convert to a mov file thru Quick time. I just want to play the mov file (should be a video file) in a DVD palyer so that people can watch in the TV. I tried to use TNPGEnc but encountered some problems, such as no audio... So anybody can tell me which software can hadle it. I don't want to pay much (us$50 or less) because it is personal use. Thanks in advance for help. James

http://www.vcdhelp.com has guides on converting various types of files to VCD. Maybe something there can help you.

You may have to convert the MOV file to AVI. Then convert that AVI file to MPG using TMPenc. You can find more details here: http://www.vcdhelp.com/convert

Thank you for your reply to my question. I tried to convert from mov to avi using Quick Time Pro but encountered some problems, such as no audio and blur in the images. May be to save the sound in another track in the Quick Time but the timing will have a problem to match the change of the image. Would be much appreciated if someone can help me solve the problem and hope he or she has ever actually converted from mov or swf (video and sound) to vcd.

I've worked with *.qt and *.mov files, including them in the timeline with *.avi files of varying persuasions and creating an MPEG file of the lot through VideoServer plugin and TMPGenc. But so far the only way I've done is with Adobe Premiere which may not be to your cost preferences. There may be other <$100 NLE programs out there like MGI VideoWave, Ulead VideoStudio, and various flavors of Pinnacle Edition but for that amount of money may or may not accept *.mov/qt easily and will introduce their own unique gremlins and levels of wretchedness.

Hi, James:

I've ever converted my SWF movies to VCDs and Mini-DVDs. I encoutered the same problem as yours at first. I think it's the problem between SWF file and QuickTime on processing sound track. Consequently, maybe you'll get a soundless file even you export your SWF file to AIF or WAV file.

Under this situation, you should open Macromedia FLASH to export your movie to a sound file, then use QuickTime to open it. Select all, copy it and then paste to the very beginning of the SWF file which also has been opened by QuickTime. Finally, export the movie through QuickTime to MOV or AVI files.

When I creat a DVD or Mini-DVD from a SWF file, I directly export it through MPEG-2 extention (a kind of Quicktime Plug-in provided by DVD Studio Pro) after adding an AIF sound file to it. Of course it can also create a VCD by using Adaptec Toast MPEG encoder QuickTime Plug- in. It's so convenient to do on a Mac!

Hi! BoA,

It's quite exciting to know someone to have the knowledge I eagerly reqired. I understand the upper half you've described. It would be much appreciated if you could clarify something below:

"I directly export it through MPEG-2 extention"

Do you mean you use QuickTime 6 Pro so that it can export a MPEG-2 file? I now use QuickTime 5.02 Pro. It seems that I will expense US$ 30 for the QuickTime 6 Pro.

"a kind of Quicktime Plug-in provided by DVD Studio Pro"

Is it QuickTime 6 Pro? If not, where I could get the software?

"Of course it can also create a VCD by using Adaptec Toast MPEG encoder QuickTime Plug- in. It's so convenient to do on a Mac!"

Where I could get the software "Adaptec Toast Mpeg encoder"? I use PC , not Mac. Do I have problem using your way to create a vcd?

James

Thank you Mehmet Tekdemir,

Do you mean you have successfuly converted a mov file to a vcd using "Adobe Premiere"?

I know "Adobe Premiere" can also edit and add special effects to a video. So I may use a trial version to have a test at first.

Could you please describe a little bit detail to convert a mov file to a vcd using"Adobe Premiere".

Thank you.

With Flash MX, you can now export your flash movie as an AVI file, so then its just a case of encoding it for Video CD, and you can do that with TMPGEnc.

Hi all,

I use EO video, a great stand alone application for converting Quicktime & RealPlayer movies to mpegs; www.eo-video.com it isn't free though but I'm satisfied with being able to convert the different formats.

"Super DVD Creator" was designed to convert your AVI/DivX/Xvid/Mpeg/Rm/Wmv/ASF/Mov files to VCD/SVCD or DVD. You can use this software to create SVCD/VCD/DVD, you can look in www.download.com and try it

Sorry man, forgot Flash MX doesnt have Mpeg format, closest it gets is AVI. But you can download crap offa KaZaA and such to convert AVI to MPEG (for video editing purposes, probably not necessary) However I'm not sure if Roxio can burn AVI directly to CD as a VCD. However, As I am only familiar with Roxio being able to burn VCD properly (Nero's way too hard to use, despite its slogan). Just to be safe, use the tools I used (Easy Video Converter [CONVERT TO MPEG1!]) and Roxio Pro (Standard doesn't have the video burning feature) both can be downloaded off of KaZaA.
